Privacy Policy

Open Acadia is committed to providing helpful webpages and online resources that respect our visitors’ privacy.  We restrict access to your information both technically and procedurally.  Any information we collect from you will be used for legitimate university activities and will never be sold to or exchanged with a third party for commercial purposes.

What types of information do we collect?

We may gather two kinds of information about you as you use our website or online tools:

Personal information is collected when you e-mail us, complete an online form, or otherwise voluntarily and knowingly provide it to us.  This information is used for various academic purposes, and to tell you about programs or events that may be of interest to you.

Automatically Collected information about the way you use our website is collected through Google Analytics software, in a similar manner to most other websites you use.  We will not connect this information with your personal information.  This information is largely anonymous and is used to provide insight into our website traffic and the general characteristics of our visitors, so that we may best adapt our services and resources to suit their needs.  Examples of information collected this way include:

  • Which pages of our website you visited
  • The date and time you visited our website
  • Your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) and operating system (Windows, Mac, etc.)
  • The internet domain from which you accessed our website
  • If you arrived here by clicking on a link on another website, the address of that website
  • If you arrived here by clicking on a Google advertisement

Some aspects, such as your IP address, could theoretically be personally identifiable, depending on your internet service provider’s standards and policies.  However, this information is not used to attempt to determine your identity or record the specifics of your visit.

E-mail Privacy

We may occasionally email you about programs or events that could be of interest to you.  In each email we send for these purposes, you’ll have the option to remove yourself from a particular mailing list (ex. Professional Development) or all Open Acadia email entirely.

Your Security

A number of our online registration documents use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption to protect your data on its way to us.  This technology may be familiar to you if you’ve used online banking or online shopping websites.  All online payment transactions are sent in this encrypted format to help ensure that your banking details are protected.

As a visitor, you’ll know when you’re using an encrypted page: the URL will begin as “https://” Instead of “http://”.  In addition, most popular web browsers will display a small padlock icon in the URL area (Internet Explorer, Safari, Chrome) or in the bottom corner (Firefox).

"September Fast Forward" Facebook Contest Rules & Privacy

  • Contest open to current Acadia University students only; prizes are to be picked up on-campus. Entries will be accepted from September 12, 2011 through September 26th, 2011.
  • Winners will be selected by random number draw and notified via e-mail.
  • Winners must complete entry form after liking/becoming a fan of the Open Acadia Facebook page ( The contest is open to both new and current fans of Open Acadia.
  • This promotion is not sponsored, administered, or endorsed by Facebook in any way. The contact information you submit through the entry form will be used by Open Acadia in the event you win a prize - it will not be provided to Facebook or used for other purposes.
